Transportation

Traditionally, LNG vessels were built and dedicated to transport LNG pursuant to a long-term contract with durations of 20+ years; recently however, LNG trade patterns have become so diversified that there now exist various short-term, medium-term and spot basis trade. Under this trend, transportation flexibility has become an important factor than ever before.

In an LNG project, utilizing reliable vessels for safe and stable transportation are a matter of vital importance. However, constructing a new LNG vessel requires a long lead time (approximately 3 years) compared with conventional tankers and involves a significant capital investment. Therefore, transportation business is one of the most important factors that cannot be ignored when considering project economics.

We, LNG Japan, have accumulated experiences in LNG transportation business for over 30 years providing LNG suppliers and buyers with opportunities for chartering vessels, purchasing existing vessels, building new vessels establishing vessel managing companies as well as bunkering to vessels. There are 10 LNG vessels operating in our long-term LNG trade business which started in the 1970's. Effectively utilizing our existing LNG vessels we are considering application of new technologies such as FSRU and FPSO to those existing fleet.

Transportation business is one part of the LNG value chain which is indispensable for our future business growth under the competitive and diversified LNG market today. We are utilizing the know-how absorbed over the long history to continuously and actively expand our position in the LNG transportation business.
