Educational subsidy to the Tsunami victims in Ache, North Sumatra (Indonesia)

In end of 2004, the Indian Ocean earthquake, known as the Sumatra-Andaman earthquake, caused a tremendous damage to areas of Southeast Asia, especially in the Ache Province of Indonesia. Recognizing the 30+ years and the close relationship with Indonesia through our LNG business, LNG Japan made a donation of JPY 2 million to support victims of the disaster through PT Pertamina, our business partner in the country.

However, even to this day, many sufferers and orphans are unable to receive compulsory education in the province. Therefore, in addition to governmental aid, we have explored alternative ways to support victims at a nongovernmental level.

As a result, we found the gJambo Minda Foundationh, which holds a lofty guideline of aid activities, and donated another JPY 2 million to the foundation in 2006. The donation includes scholarship from elementary school to university, aid for research, mobile library and educational books, which all are a requisite for the regionfs future.
